Happy Release Day C.A. Kunz!!
What would you sacrifice to save the one’s you love? To save the one who holds your heart? To save the world?
Kenley Grayson is all too familiar with these questions.
After Earth is thrust into its first intergalactic war with an unknown race called the Bringers, our military forces begin to suffer heavy losses. Desperate for a solution, the Allied Federation issues a worldwide draft for every able seventeen year old to enlist. As Kenley turns seventeen, she finds herself thrown into the very war that took her older brother’s life.
This year’s draft is a little different than in the past though. A new program, known as the Magnus Project, has been introduced, and only the best and brightest qualify. Kenley is amongst a select few whom are chosen to join this elite group of soldiers, and as a part of this project, undergoes a modification procedure that leaves her and her peers endowed with powers beyond their wildest dreams.
As Earth continues in its struggle against the Bringers, Kenley is transported to a high-tech training facility, the Magnus Academy, to prepare for the major battle that lies ahead. It’s here that she meets the California heartthrob, and son of a legendary war hero, Landon Shaw. As unexpected feelings toward Landon begin to develop, Kenley wonders if this is the right time or place for romance to bloom, especially when those feelings start to interfere with her training.
My mom turns to look at me when she hears the back door open and close. At first she smiles at me, but it fades quickly as she goes back to watering her flowers.
“Please tell me they gave you a nice cushy desk job to work at for the next two years,” she says as she wipes the sweat from her brow with her gardening glove.
I hesitate to answer. This is a lot harder than I was expecting it to be. I hate that I can’t be honest with her. Somewhere, though, I find the strength and reply. “Yep, a real nice cushy one.”
“I’m so torn up by this, Kenley. You have no idea. I’ve been losing sleep for months now, anticipating this very moment…when you’d return with your assignment. I hate the Federation for taking my baby girl away from me,” she explains as tears come to her eyes.
I grab her in a hug and she wraps her arms around me tighter than she ever has. I have to do everything in my power not to break down. “Mom, I’m going to be all right. You have nothing to worry about.” That lie resonates deep within me and my heart breaks at the thought of possibly never being able to see her again.
She releases the hug and pulls away from me while wiping away her tears. “You’ve been my saving grace ever since we lost Dylan. It’s going to be very tough around here, but at least now I’ll be able to get some sleep at night knowing you won’t be in harm’s way like your brother was,” she states, a sad smile returning to her face.
Sounds great right?? It was more than great, it was amazing. My daughter Ashley and I were
lucky enough to read the Modified early, and we absolutely loved it. We decided to condense our
reviews into one and list the five reasons we adored this book.
1) The storyline was unique and written so well you can't help but feel like you're a part of the story.
2) The characters were absolutely amazing and we couldn't help falling in love with all of them.
3) We loved the whole idea of being modified and training for something so important.
4) We both wished that we could visit Magnus Academy to see all its epicness in real life.
5) Last but definitely not least, we have to give a shout out to the ROMANCE. We're both huge fans of a good love story and The Modified delivered big time.
So there are our 5 reasons. Now go out and discover your own 5 reasons because believe me, you're not going to want to miss out!!!!!
